Halloween Movies

I get asked a lot what are good Halloween movies and TV shows for kids?  We have watched quite a few so I thought I would make a list of the ones we watch in our home divided by age appropriateness.  Now I do advise parents use their own judgement on what is and isn’t appropriate for their children, and always pre-veiw when in doubt.

Movies for every age

  • Spooky Buddies
  • Vampire Dog
  • The Worst Witch
  • Halloweentown (all of them, there are 4)
  • Underwraps
  • My Mother has a Date with a Vampire
  • Little Vampire
  • Phantom of the Megaplex
  • Scream Team
  • Tower of Terror
  • Girl vs Monster
  • The Boy who Cried Werewolf
  • The Dog Who Saved Halloween
  • Hotel Transylvania (1 and 2)
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Ichabod Crane
  • Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Book of Life
  • The Corpse Bride
  • Don’t Look Under the Bed
  • Witches (not specifically Halloween)
  • Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin
  • Casper
  • Paranorman
  • Invisible Sister
  • Goosebumps movie
  • Mostly Ghostly (there are quite a few of these)

Movies that may be appropriate for older children with parental supervision

  • Van Helsing
  • Practical Magic
  • Little Monsters (this was popular when I was a kid, there are some questionable things in here)
  • Monster Squad (again questionable language)
  • The Others
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • Beautiful Creatures
  • Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket (light ghost story, heavy mystery)
  • My Babysitter’s a Vampire

TV shows

  • Goosebumps
  • Growing up Creepy
  • Tuttenstein
  • The Worst Witch (Netflix has a new series and there is an old BBC version, both are worth watching)
  • Ruby Gloom (even young kids can enjoy this one)
  • The Haunting Hour (better for slightly older)
  • Spooksville
  • Deadtime Stories (TV show not to be confused with the movie)
  • Little Witches Academia
  • My Babysitter’s a Vampire
  • Are you Afraid of the Dark
