Pumpkin Story and Muffins

I find there are so many things I want to bake around Halloween.  Luckily the kids love to bake as well so we can add that into our homeschooling routine.  For pumpkin week we decided to have Pumpkin cornbread muffins with dinner.  This is a recipe we all love.  Melon managed to make the muffins almost entirely by himself.

Kearnan helped with stirring.  Melon decided he wants to be a pastry chef.  🙂  A big thank you to Gluten-free Goddess for the recipe for these.  We love them.  https://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2006/12/pumpkin-corn-muffins.html

While our muffins baked the boys played Boo Bump Multiplication.  Melon didn’t like it as well as the addition but they enjoyed it.

Then we pulled out the muffins.  They turned out beautifully. Melon got to tell everyone he made dinner.  He was super proud.

When the muffins were finished I read the boys a story.  When I was a kid I remember one of the parent volunteers at school telling us a story, and as she told the story she would fold and cut this sheet of construction paper.  When she finished she would unfold the paper and it was a haunted house.  I found a little paper folding story that created a pumpkin to read for the boys.  It is really simplistic and they are probably a bit old for it but we had fun with it anyway.

Wound up with a cute little pumpkin.  If you want to try out the surprise pumpkin you can find it here. http://notjustcute.com/2009/10/21/surprise-pumpkin/
