A week of Halloween Schoolwork is not complete without themed baked goods. I have to say Monster Cookies have been my favorite to make so far, though we are just getting started. These cookies are so much fun to make with kids, super simple, and cute.
You will need
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1 8oz bar cream cheese softened
- 1 egg
- green food coloring
- powdered sugar
- candy eyes
To make beat butter, vanilla, egg, and cream cheese until fluffy. Add cake mix and combine. Now add your food coloring until you reach desired color. We used neon teal about 4 drops, but you can use any color. Chill for half hour. Preheat oven to 350. Roll into balls and roll through powdered sugar (this is super fun for kids). Set on prepared cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes. Place eyes while cookies are still warm. They stick best if you place as soon as you pull cookies from the oven. We used Wilton candy eyes (I bought them at Michaels). Use one eye or many eyes, let the kids have fun.
My boys loved this. They enjoy baking, but it is more fun with bright colored cookies and things they get to play with. I am told the cookies turned out really well. We made small cookies, you could make them larger.
